If you have had a bad fall, broken bones or surgery , you know about the slow recovery period during which you can only move around with the aid of crutches which eventually limit your activities, your solution to your problem is the IWALKFree.
iWALKFree is a revolutionary crutch designed by Lance Mathew who after sustaining a bad fall in November of 1997 would have had to postpone his holiday trip and forget about the long walk he had dreamt of all year. Not Lance Mathew he quickly went to work and constructed the first iWALKFree from wood, it proved so practical that he had no problem proceeding with his planned holiday where he eventually indulged in long walks using his new invention now known as the iWALKFree.
The doctors and orthopaedic technologists at Toronto's Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre, one of the leading orthopaedic research facilities in North America, were so impressed that they understood an immediate trial of the device should ensue, and recommended patent protection. With manufacturing advice from a colleague, Matthews embarked on a new phase of development.
Early prototype work of the IWALKFree was refined with the assistance of a variety of professional advisors, all of whom shared in a determination to offer crutch and cane users a dramatic improvement in their personal mobility.
In July 30th of 1999 the Canadian minister of health wrote to Mathew and he
indicated that iWALKFree was a class 1 design medical device with a very innovative design … and will provide an important treatment option for victims of land mines and others for which [sic] a hands free crutch is appropriate."
iWALKFree has received a Medical Device Establishment Licence (769) from Health Canada's Therapeutic Products Programme.
